Already enjoyed the views of Camden’s best place to hike? Experience more of the breathtaking sights that Camden has to offer on another hiking adventure—Maiden’s Cliff!
The Maiden’s Cliff hiking trail sits off of Rt. 52, across from Camden’s best place to enjoy the water, Megunticook Lake. Part of the Camden Hills State Park, the summit of this trail is easily recognizable because of the large white cross jutting from its peak. The cross is a memorial for Elenor French, an 11 year old girl who fell on May 7, 1864 trying to catch her windblown hat. Built in the girl’s memory, this memorial has been a staple of Camden since 1947.
Only one mile to the top of this 800 foot peak, Maiden’s Cliff offers views of a variety of Camden’s best. Hikers can still enjoy views of the famous Atlantic Ocean while also experiencing the winding pleasure of Megunticook Lake and the rolling beauty of the countryside.
With access to other State Park hiking trails, Maiden’s Cliff can turn from a quick hike to a daylong excursion! Trails leading from Maiden’s Cliff to Mt. Battie’s equally stunning peak are easily accessible, and make for a great trekking adventure.
So get your hiking boots and enjoy more of Camden’s amazing hiking trails! For more information on Camden’s trails, please visit the Camden Hills State Park.
